Data Recovery Questions

Wednesday, May 29th, 2019

Below are several questions sent to a data recovery clinic in Northampton. Beeping and making sticking noise as described in your Web page.

Please can you quote to either repair or recover Data from my HDD External Hard Drive
Description of Problem not working it has beed dropped

The laptop and the applicable hard drive are old and have been unused since 2012. Back then, the hard drive became unaccessible, which caused me to replace the laptop (Macbook).
The issue why the hard drive became unaccessible was never discovered. So my question is if you can restore the files on this hard drive.

Northampton

I formatted by mistake from the camera, since then I have not more used the SD card. It is a 32 GB lexar SD card. It contains about 35-50 minutes of video interview plus some photos.

The harddrive in question is about two years old from a reputable company in Northamptonshire. My external harddrive wire was replaced as it was no longer connecting to the computer. From this moment on the harddrive would occasionally have errors appearing saying ‘unable to read disk’. Now the harddrive appears as corrupt and my IT team at work have tried to recover the data but have told me that it needs to be looked at by professionals. This has files on it that I would like to recover. Please can you contact me with details about how I might have this looked at?

1TB solid state drive from a Dell laptop. Will not boot but Dell diagnostics finds no hardware fault. Drive is not readable. Need too try to recover as much data as possible.

The hard drive broke for my Macbook Pro, took it into a data recovery store in Northampton who told me that the data was was recoverable as the ?pin had broken.

The connector between my usb cable and hard drive has broken off meaning that I can not connect the hard drive to my computer. I have files that I use for work as I am a teacher who moves classrooms so all my data I need is in this external hard drive. I need for it to be fixed so I can use it in work.

I have 2TB WD external hard drive which doesn’t work. It basically doesn’t connect to my laptop, it doesn’t get recognized.
Can I please get an estimate as to what is going to cost me to recover the data and how much time you need to do it

Hard drive reports as ‘not initialised’, Birmingham data recovery

Friday, April 26th, 2019

I live in Birmingham and have a WD Passport made in 2007. I’m looking for a data recovery company local to Birmingham.
It does not show in my computer.
The drive is recognised by windows device manager but shows as ‘not initialised‘.
It is not recognised in partition software such as MiniTool and EaseUS.
Mechanically it seems fine; the light is on, it seems to be humming.

Whilst using my Seagate portable hard drive it began to make a ‘clicking’ sound. On trying to save my document the drive was no longer visible on ‘my pc’. Our IT team have looked at it but are unable to retrieve any data using their limited resources. They tell me that the hard drive is not initialising. I would be grateful if you could let me know if this is something you could help with. I am in Birmingham and looking to have the data on the hard drive forensically examined – I require the data to be investigated.

How much it cost to recover data from an Apple disk drive which crashed and no longer initialises? It’s mainly data or word files?

Western digital external hard drive not initialised.
Plugged it in, files started disappearing in front of my eyes…..
Could I get a ball park quote of how much recovery may cost?

I dropped my 2TB slim seagate external hard drive from about 1m onto wooden floor.
It now won’t connect or read and it makes a clicking sound.
The data is highly important to me, so obviously I need the data and files recovering.

A Samsung M3 600gb external hard drive that makes a few beeps when is connected, stops and then doesn’t seem to be spinning. I’m looking for a data recovery service in Birmingham.

PC at work and school not reading portable drive…light not coming on. IT technician in Birmingham at school says it is ‘dead’. Can anything be retrieved. 7 years of school work on it.

I have Samsung HD103SI 3.5″ HDD with dead head and I would like to know how much would it cost to get that head replaced with working one

Hardrive beeps and sounds like it is struggling to spin and initialise when plugged into laptop – also not recognised mounting on any laptop or larger macs – have tried multiple leads etc

Apple Mac Data Recovery in Liverpool, London and Manchester

Wednesday, March 27th, 2019

In this article we look at various facets of Apple Mac data recovery – particularly from hard drives. We recommend that if you are wanting to use a data recovery service to retrieve your Apple Mac files then you find a suitable data clinic recovery centre. These are available in Liverpool, London or Manchester.

Since an update to my Macbook OSX (to high sierra) the external drive is not being recognised by the Macbook. It used to be recognised by other macs running a previous operating system but now it is not being read by any mac. It is partitioned to exFat and Mac OS Journal. I have ran terminal commands and checked my system report but it doesn’t show in either nor in recovery mode or safe mode. I am based in Liverpool but the laptop is located in London. Do you have a Mac data recovery clinic in either Liverpool or London?

A local data recovery technician at home had looked at my Mac hard drive. He has taken it apart. This is what he said:
“Unfortunately the coatings that the information is stored on is scraped off in several areas from the disk and the heads that read info are also damaged so its therefore impossible to retrieve anything unfortunately.”
Is there anything you can do to rescue the files from the Mac hard drive? I am a school principal at a Manchester clinic and years of data and work is stored in this drive.

I have a Seagate 1tb external drive. it was working and then suddenly stopped showing on My Computer. It would click two or three time then stop. It took the Mac hard drive to several PC shops – in London, Liverpool and Manchester. All 3 recommended the data clinic recovery company on Lombard Street London. i took the drive to them and they returned it saying there is platter damage and that it is unrecoverable. what i need is a second opinion and im still hopeful some of my data is available. i have pictures and a report from them. all he has returned is the inner drive casing so there is no power plug or usb port.
my question is does this sound like something unfixable or is it something you could look at.

My little one poured some water on my Apple Macbook Air laptop. I did a short and long DST test and they both failed (I have the error code as well). Tried to connect the hard disk to the computer but was not able to open it using Apple Mac data clinic recovery software. I would like to save any data that can be saved from the hard drive.

Nottingham Data Recovery

Nottingham data recovery
WD MYCloud 4TB NAS knocked onto the floor. Now will not connect is making clicking sound. Unable to access any data.

I have mac book pro15, and I have deleted my hole system. So that there is no boot options and I have lost my valuable files in the hard drive.
I was trying to install Ubuntu system on an external hardesk, so when I reached where I have to install my system I have by mistake chosen the mac hard drive so that every thing are erase.

I was filming an event in Nottingham a few weeks back and I dropped my external 6TB drive. There is a lot of data on this drive I haven’t backed up and am in need of getting it back. I took it to Knowhow and they couldn’t fix it by plugin they recommend getting the disks taken out the drive and retrieving it that way. I want to shop around to see what’s available because theirs costs £350 and I don’t know if that’s a good price or not. Is this something you do? If so how much would it cost? The drive is a Seagate 6tb Barracuda.

Laptop Viao PSG won’t boot up, and i want to recover the files from it.

Deleted some text messages watts app from my Samsung galaxy while ago it’s important I retrieve them from one specific number can you help. Do you have a shop in Nottingham where I can get the data recovered?

2 Sundays ago my laptop fell off a table and wouldn’t switch on again. I had a plan with team know how in PC World who said that they would be able to recover my data and fix the hard drive. They replaced the hard drive but then told me that data recovery was unsuccessful. I’m currently waiting for my hard drive to be returned to me.
The error message which appeared on my computer originally was “default boot device missing or boot failed. Insert recovery media and hit any key. Then select boot manager to choose a new boot device or to boot recovery media.”. Do you think it’s possible to recover the data and if so how much would it cost?

I work at Nottingham University and have had a 64GB USB for less than a month and it has suddenly stopped working. It hasn’t been dropped, knocked or got wet. The light has stopped working overnight and doesn’t seem to be getting any power and I have tried it in three different laptops in all of the USB ports and none of them detect it. I have over 30GB’s of important information/ uni work/ photos that I would like to retrieve and was wondering if I could be sent an estimate and whether you think it may be retrievable?
The USB is a university one, so unfortunately I do not know the make.

Computer will not see my wd passport 500 gb,tried other computers as well, same issue, potentially it might hit be spinning as well, but I need to recover at least photos and videos from it.

Hard Drive and Moto G Phone Recovery

Thursday, May 31st, 2018

Toshiba Satellite Pro C850–1HD
Can’t F2 or F8 laptop on startup. Get windows login, then circle of dots, then blank screen. Windows 7 operating system total failure. Hence need to recover hard disc data. It appears that the input on my Seagate hard drive has melted, and the machine is unable to read the disk. Any chance of recovery?

moto g phoneAlso my WD My Passport has stopped working and it makes approximately three beeping noises and then it doesn’t show up for me to gain access to any of the folders and files. It shows a message’ device descriptor failed request’ and I would like to get it fixed It’s a 1tb external hard drive is not recognised by computer. Suspected hardware failure – clicking noise. Believe drive was dropped. Please can you provide estimate for recovery please – photos and videos.

I have a transcend 2TB external drive which has a broken arm and needs the plattens removed and installed in a replacement to extract the data. We have managed to get 8GB from it but it has in excess of 750GB.

Moto G Phone Recovery
My mum’s Moto G phone has water damage, it still shows some signs of life but is essentially unusable and won’t maintain connection if plugged into a pc.
We want to try and recover all her photos and numbers stored on the phone.

In a previous post I provided a very useful link for data recovery services on Moto G mobile phones – you can find it here: http://24hourcomputerrepairs.com/datarecovery-kazam-curve-motog/.

Checkpoint Encrypted Disk Won’t Boot

Saturday, March 12th, 2016

Endpoint Full Disk Encryption is a software product produced by Checkpoint and allows computer systems running either Windows or Max OS X to encrypt the contents of their hard drives. This has the effect of making the information on those drives useless should the drive be stolen or otherwise. To decrypt a hard drive encrypted with Checkpoint FDE it is necessary to enter the password when the system first boots. Decryption of the files is handled ‘on the fly’ so it is important that the FDE system runs on a machine powerful enough to handle this. If a FDE enable system won’t boot, this presents a significant problem in retrieving the data from the hard drive.

Hard Disk Encryption iconWhilst the software may be well written and relatively bug free, the hard disks it runs on are often of the mechanical HDD variety – which is based on 40 year old technology that relies on moving parts. Additionally other nasties like bad sectors develop on hard drives and any problem on a drive will hinder the operation of FDE. Interestingly there’s a new post about recovering the data from a hard drive encrypted with Endpoint (see http://www.dataclinic.co.uk/recovering-check-point-endpoint-fde-encrypted-hard-drives/) that had developed these problems and no longer worked. The only option was to send the hard drive to Data Clinic and hope they could recover the information.

The Checkpoint FDE software can run on multiple disk systems too, including Network Attached Storage (NAS) hard drives and the larger RAID 5 servers. Of course these systems are far more complex than their single drive counterparts and the problems faced by repair companies are significantly enhanced should problems begin to develop on the hard drives from a NAS or RAID server. As yet I am unaware of any company that has been asked with recovering the data from one of these systems that has been encrypted with the Checkpoint software, although this is bound to happen at some point.

Regular NAS and RAID systems that don’t use encryption are still more complex than single disk to repair and recover. Data Clinic (link above) should be able to handle data retrieval from these systems but there are other companies that offer the same type of service too such as http://www.emergency-raid-datarecovery.com for RAID recovery and http://www.datlabsdatarecovery.co.uk for all popular hard disk types.

In all cases, make sure you do your own research and review what other people say about the company before you make your choice on who to use. Checkpoint’s FDE is a complex product and any hard drive that uses encryption is a much trickier proposition to recover the data from than a hard drive that doesn’t, so make sure you use a well known data recovery company rather than one that is not well regarded.
