Lost text messages on HTC and Galaxy

April 8th, 2018

What are the most valuable items of data on a mobile phone? For the owners of HTC M8 and Samsung Galaxy S7 phones, the answer seems to be lost text messages. Here are two examples:

recovering deleted and lost text messagesAbout 3 weeks ago I lost some text messages from my mobile phone (HTC M8). I don’t recall deleting it, perhaps I did without knowing. I never backup my data. I’m only interested in lost data of one contact that’s all.
Please let me know if you able to help?
I live close to Data Clinic’s Lombard St centre in London I’m happy to take there if someone wants to have a look at my device. I also have the data stored on a broken hard drive so I’ll bring that in too and hopefully you can get the data off of it.

I have got an old, broken galaxy s7 edge that has some photos and text messages on it that I would really like to retrieve, problem is that the phone is bricked, the screen is broken, the battery is dead (as in not chargeable dead), the charging/data port is broken, the list goes on. I’m just hoping to get my old photos back, and would like a quote if thats okay. Just a heads up, I probably won’t be able to answer a call back in business hours just due to my job (having seen the button that says request call back) so if you could pop me an email to the address provided instead, that would be brilliant.

When attempting to retrieve text messages from phone’s the still turn on the best way forward is to try a software extraction process. This can be done by downloading some software from the internet that will do the job for you. However, if your phone no longer turns on then you’ll need to get the assistance of a phone data recovery company to help you. These companies are able to read the text message data from the memory chips on your phone, even if it no longer switches on.

Often in legal cases it’s necessary to extract messages and data from phone where those messages have been lost or deleted, a data recovery company who are also experts in extracting text messages (whether deleted or not) are Data Clinic – you can read their phone data recovery services page here 1 and their phone data extraction (investigative forensics services) page here 2.

Seagate and Lenovo Data Recovery in London

March 26th, 2018

Here are some of the latest data recovery enquiries from owners of Seagate, WD and Lenovo hard drive users in London, England. Look at the entire 24hourcomputerrepairs blog for details on sourcing a data recovery service in London.

Seagate hard drive for data recoveryMy Seagate free agent Goflex drive fell damaging its power unit (the power unit is plugged to wall socket). The drive no longer powers up and I am unable to access my data. Are you able to recover data as I have tried private shop in London.

I have a tempremental Seagate Home share 3TB network hard drive that is intermitantly failing. It lets me access it now and then but most of the time its unavailable. There are many docs and photo’s on there I would like to recover and wondered if you could do it and what it might cost?

Ticking WD2500 hard drive
I have a WD2500 (WD Cavier SE16 – WD P/N WD2500KS – 00MJB0) internal hard drive.
The drive had been clicking recently as it spins down to go into standby mode or when the computer is shutdown.
Now the discs spins up on computer boot, clicks rapidly then spins down, the drive no longer mounts and is not visible on the computer.
Is it possible to repair the drive to allow me to access / retrieve the data?

Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 Firmware Updates
Model ST3150034aAS
This model needs to run on updated firmware – so please make sure yours is up to date
No longer recognised when installed or when connected by USB adaptor.
When powered up, there is a low regular tone.

My samsung evo 840 msata 1tb suddenly became undetectable by my laptop. The bios reports not detected hdd. Is there any chance of recovery and if so at what cost?

I’ve got a Lenovo, windows 10, SSD memory and I can not login, I get the error messages “service centre fail, user profile can not loaded”
I want at least , in worst situation, to safe the data from it.
Can you do that?
I’m living in east London, E13

Seagate Hard Drive Recovery – London and Worcester

March 7th, 2018

In this post I examine some recent data recovery enquiries for Seagate hard drives.

SMART value errors
I have a seagate hard drive (1 TB back up plus). It has a lot of precious data on it and I haven’t been able to get it to work for some time now.
When I click on the icon, an error message occurs that tells me it needs to be formatted- I have not done this.
I have extremely limited knowledge of anything like this but I downloaded a SMART tester that identified ‘197 current pending secret count RAW value 16‘ and a whole host of other errors such as ‘uncorrectavle error in data’. Unfortunately I don’t know what any of this means or how to recover anything safely, I’m just really hoping it can be saved!!
There shouldn’t be any physical damage to the drive but I don’t think I’ve been careful enough when unplugging it. I’d be really grateful if I could have it looked at for data recovery. Would this be onto a new drive (if it’s possible?). I live in Malvern, Worcestershire and happy to drop it in to the office.

Malvern, Worcestershire

I have a Seagate 350gb external harddrive that I use occasionally to backup files and photos and today it was not recognised by my computer. It bleeped when the USB was connected to the drive but it couldn’t connect and now the light is on on the harddrive but it isn’t being recognised by 2 different computers and I have checked the cables etc. Putting my ear to it I can hear it is whirring with a slight throb to it. It has photos of Worcester (especially Great Malvern) on it that I don’t have elsewhere and would like to recover them.

Seagate Barracuda 3.5″ internal SATA HDD. Used in an external enclosure for backing up of videos and photos. Enclosure slipped off surface and dropped onto the floor while powered on. Since then, when powering on HDD there is a slight buzzing noise for 2 seconds followed by a sharp beep. This repeats for 20 seconds then HDD goes dead; no spinning, no noise, no power. Attempted to power on through enclosure, SATA dock to PC and slaving to an existing PC. All with same results. Spoke with Phil Buttifant on phone and keen to drop off HDD for free diagnostics (Lombard St, London). Require reference number.

My 1 TB seagate expansion doesn’t work when connect it to my laptop and this doesn’t allow me to access my documents on the hard drive. I live in Worcestershire but travel frequently to London

Recover data from Western Digital hard drives

February 23rd, 2018

WD logoIn the previous post to this, I wrote a lot about how hard drives become mechanically damaged and what to do to recover the data from them when they break. In this post I give some further examples of data recovery from Western Digital hard drives.

I have a WD external hard drive that when plugged in it makes a noise “tick” every second as if something was hitting something else. It is not recognised by the pc…

I have a 2 week old WD Mycloud Home Nas Drive which has stopped working. I took it back to curry’s who said that the clicking sound when trying to boot means the drive cannot read the data. The PC does not recognise the drive either.

I used a WD external hard drive to set up a windows 10 boot drive. Windows partitioned the drive and I can now only see it as a 4GB flash drive. In device manager I can see the rest of the drive is not formatted. The data is still there, I just cant get to it without formatting which will erase it. The drive holds about 1TB of data. Can you format or recover the data?

I have two WD elements external hard drives (1 x 1tb 1 x 2tb). one was working fine until i dropped it the other day it reads but it is very slow and the other one says F: Drive Is Not Accessible. The Parameter Is Incorrect or something similar both contain music, videos and pictures which is important that i get back.

After my wife has dropped my harddrive during a decoration weekend it has stopped responding.
the device still registers connected and shows all folders saved but I can not access these folders
also makes like a skidding noise periodically.
The device name is WD Elements
i need to try and recover the files on here as i have alot of buisness data
and family photos

WB Mybook 2Tb HD broken; I’ve taken it out of its casing and can’t recover any data from it. It contains laptop backups and other data I’d like to recover. How much would it cost to get it recovered onto a USB HD?

WD passport ultra. I sent it to a data recovery service, but have been told it has a mechanical fault that means the data cannot be recovered- the head stack?
They looked into mechanical repairs for me but there was chance it could not be fixed and it would cost a lot of money ([probably for nothing).
I would be grateful if you could offer your opinion/advice.

In my opinion, if you have a broken WD hard drive and you want to recover the data, I would only recommend you try and do this yourself if the data on the hard drive is of no value to you. The reason for this is you’ll probably make a mess of it. I’ve learnt that if you have files on a Western Digital hard drive that are of value to you then you should ask a good data recovery company to retrieve your data for you. Do not try and recover the data on your own.

Examples of mechanically damaged hard drives

February 10th, 2018

There are many faults that can befall a hard drive. One of the most common is a mechanical failure. These are most often caused by that hard drive falling and landing on something firm like a floor. This impact damages the heads of the hard drive and if the files and folders on the hard drive are valuable then you’ll have to consult a data recovery company (like Data Recovery Tips), or a country wide hard drive recovery specialist like Data Clinic Ltd to get them off. Why? Because a mechanical fault damages components inside the hard drive that need to be replaced in order to access the data again.

A damaged hard drive

  • I have a Verbatim external hard drive which stopped working today whilst I was in the process of organising some of the folders on it. When I connect it to my laptop, it beeps for a few seconds (this then stops), but it does not register with the laptop. I have tried a new USB lead and have tried to connect it to a desktop but the issue remains the same. I have a great deal of personal photos of my child, and documents which I need for my job as a teacher.
  • Seagate Expansion Portable Drive SRD0NF1 fell off table and hung down without hitting the floor. Since this the hard drive will no longer connect. When inserting USB into Macbook it just produces a consistent beeping sound, with around 1 second in between each beep. At first the blue light was on constantly and not flashing, but then after a while this no longer appears at all and just has the beeping sound.
  • I have a Transcend 1TB Hard Drive (TS1TSJ25D2). When I try to connect the hard drive to my laptop, the blue light on the hard drive comes on but my PC doesn’t recognise the hard drive. The hard drive also make a strange sound, like the drive spinning inside. Please can you advise on possible reasons for this and recommended course of action to access the data on my hard drive.
  • My hard drive stopped working. When connected to the laptop there’s a sound like a bip coming from it but it is not recognised by the computer. Needed to recover some of the files on it.

To summarise, the 4 examples are all mechanically damaged hard drives that will need the attentions of a hard drive data recovery specialist to retrieve the files. Look through some other posts on this site to find some more recommendations.

Need data from Kazam, Moto G, Blackberry and iPhones

January 25th, 2018

Recently we’ve received a large number of phone data recovery enquiries, some are reproduced below. Phone recovery can be a tricky thing, sometimes a factory reset will destroy any chance of recovering the data, but some experts like http://phone-recovery.pen.io/ can in some cases still rescue your information:

I would like a rough price for file recovery for a Samsung S3 which has suffered memory chip failure.

Model: android kazam tornado 348
Problem: camera roll has been deleted and can’t find a way to restore them. Did not physically delete them but they have been lost.

Kazam 348

I have an old, broken mobile phone that I would like to get data off, of most importance being any photos. Its a 2013 Moto G 4G mobile, 8GB Model XT1072. It got damaged two years ago when it was dropped while walking outside. The screem is very cracked with some glass chipping off altogether and to make matter worse the phone landed in water. I havent been able to switch it on ever since. When connected to any power source, the power light and screen switches on / off intermittently. There was no micro SD card, just the phone memory and SIM. I expect there is 200-300 photos on the phone which I would greaty appreciate back. Please feel free to give me a call further – after 10am – to discuss if this is something you could help with. If so, I live in London so could drop it off to your offices.

i have an iphone 6 who is stuck in recovery mode due to it having insufficient storage. whne i try turning on the phone it is the apple logo freezes on the screen an nothing happens. i have tried to install the new update for the iphone through itunes but it always fails the only solution is for me to restore my iphone which i do not wish to do as it will erase all my data and i do not want that to happen

I’d like to recover the data from my Google pixel phone, in particular my photos. The phone has been through the washing machine and having replaced some of the internals with new I can’t get it to charge or be recognised by my PC.

recover data from blackberry curveI’m wondering how far back you can recover texts from a blackberry 9360 curve, as I need certain texts for a lawsuit, also what’s your prices?

Buffalo NAS data recovery – Kensington and Chelsea
My Buffalo NAS LinkStation Duo 2TB (LS-WX2.0TL/R1) has a damaged RAID 0 array and has become inaccessable and corrupted. A local IT technician (I am located in Kensington and Chelsea in London), but will have someone personally courier the NAS to London in January) has examined it and says one of the hard drives has become damaged/inoperable, with the RAID 0 now being corrupted. What is the likely cost of recovering the data from the corrupted drive and RAID 0 array? It didn’t receive the best of reviews (http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/storage/nas-drives/50554/buffalo-linkstation-pro-duo-2tb-review) but I still need to get the files off of the device.

WD Support for file recovery for Chesterfield and Sheffield
My external hard drive died yesterday. My laptop no longer recognises it when I plug it in, i.e. nothing happens. The light on the device does come on though. The device is a WD My Passport (P/N: wdbbep0010bbk-01). I only need a couple of files recovering so if it’s not too expensive it’ll save me having to recreate them. I’m not concerned about repairing the device I barely use it. I’d be grateful if you could let me know how much it would cost to recover the files. I only live down the road (in Chesterfield, so I’m not that far from the hard drive recovery centre in Sheffield), so if you would like me to pop in with the device that’s not a problem.

My WD Passport ultra was dropped at a work event. Just over a week later I plugged it into my mac to ensure the data was still there, it was, but only when trying to eject did I find problems. I originally had a partition on my drive with one part holding multiple folders with files and the other part holding an entire backup of my mac. Upon trying to eject the partition holding the multiple folders, a message on my mac indicated that it couldn’t be disconnected. I tried to use task manager to quit and eject but it didn’t work that way, so I shut down my mac and removed the drive when everything had stopped running. Now when I connect my drive back to my mac the partition with the multiple folders doesn’t show up but the part with the back up does, it appears that I have lost half of my data with the partition. Is it possible to rectify this problem by any chance? I live in London.

Seagate drive has scratch
I have opened the seagate 2tb expansion external hard drive and I have seen a scratch on the disk in a circle, as it seems the pointer has been lowered down and is scratching the disk when turned on. Computer makes the noise when it has detected something externally has been plugged in, but will not pop up with the data.
It has video content/footage on there. Once a hard drive has a scratch on the surface it usually can not be recovered. Don’t waste your money on a data recovery service.

Backup hard drive error
Backup hard drive not working, I used my passport in morning and again when I tried to use in evening I can’t access any data …
When I unlock my Western Digital (WD) Passport with password I can’t see it getting detected. I want the data back. The hard drive I have was voted one of the best, but it wasn’t very good for me.

Data recovery from scratched platters

December 30th, 2017

Last week I was contacted by the owner of a Hitachi 80GB hard drive. Unfortunately the hard drive platters have become scratched and they wanted to know if the files were recoverable from the hard drive:

Model IC35L090AVV207-0
Doesn’t function when connected to new computer. Like a quote to have the HD functioning again.

I gave it to a data recovery company located in Northampton and unfortunately they have said that they could not recover the data due to the media damage on the disk platters and that they weren’t able to image from the disk platters. They said they had been scratched.

Here’s another hard drive that has been sent to a data recovery company:

1tb Seagate Model: ST1000DM003
inspection carried out by KrollOntrack
Phisical damange Pass
Liquid contamination Pass
Power up test Pass
Electronica inspection Fail
Media integrity Fail

My hard drive suddenly stop getting recognised on my window 10. The flash is flashing but when I plug it into the computer it will not appear on the screen .It’s not recognizing. could you please tell me how to recover the pictures and video from the disk or what could cause this problem.

Scratched hard drive platter

When I plug my hard drive into my computer it shows up on my desktop, but when I click on it I cannot access the files within it. Have tried from more than one computer and have got the same problem. Someone suggest that the platters of the hard drive were scratched and that recovering the data would not be possible.

My HDD won’t read or appear on a PC. Power is working to it but it seems like an interface issue. I live in Chiswick – is it possible to come in to the Chiswick branch and discuss options?

We have two drives that require recovery. One is a 80Gb Hitachi, its just not detected, no power not sound when plugged in. The second is a Seagate drive thats been dropped and is making a clicking noise. It is making a beeping rhythmic sound and does not get registered when plugged in.

Clicking sound when turned on. LED light does flash but does not show folders on any computer. Scratched hard drive is recognised by the computer however, just fails to show folders.

Recovering files from a Mac

December 15th, 2017

Using Disk Utility is a good way of recovering your files from a dodgy Mac hard drive. As basic types of data recovery go, Disk Utility is OK, but anything more complex and you’ll need a data recovery company. These posts are courtesy of such a company, thank you Recover Deleted Data.

Old WD Mybook not working
I have an old 500GB WD Mybook, one that still has to connect to an external power supply and is connected to USB via Firewire. The hard drive is never moved and has been working as expected in the last few years. Recently, after not being used for about a year, it powers on but the connection via laptop(s) does not pick up the external drive. I purchased another Firewire cable but no luck here. There is no sound coming out from the drive which is unexpected. I believe it is a simple case of the connection between the SATA drive being loose/broken and I just need this drive connected to another external USB drive, and the data transferred. There will be no need to fix the WD 500GB drive and happy for you to keep and re-sell it if you like. The hard drive will not turn on any more. The model is a Western Digital MyBook (Essential Edition 1TB USB 2.0) External Hard Drive.

Old Iomega drive makes clicking sound
I’ve had Iomega 500gb external hard drive for about 4 years and just recently when I connected it back on all I hear is some clicking sound. I have tried doing the basic by opening and resetting the reader back in its position however to me it sounds more like the drive to me. I need to recover the deleted photos and the videos of my kids which is more precious to me and my partner.

The hard drive beeps when first powered on. The driver will not be recognised by the computer. The make of the external drive is WD and the files are deleted.

Received file disk error upon restart after downloading OS X High Sierra on MacBook Pro 2012 model. Apple store suggested a damaged disk and advised a reformat.

Note: With all the above examples, you may first like to attempt running Disk Utility before contacting a data recovery service to recover your data.

Need Data File Recovered

November 28th, 2017

I have a WD Passport for Mac, which i use to store my photos and music on. The Mac broke and i had to run disk utility in order to recover the data. I took the mac to Apple and they installed a new OS, and new Photos programme.
The files on the drive are now just showing greyed out, and the disk says there’s only 53kb of data in the photos folder. When i try to import them to the new photos, it says the file isn’t recognised.

Data Clinic data recovery staff

Similarly, my Hitatchi 4TB external windows HDD from 2012. Just stopped working one day, now makes a series of small clicks after being powered up. Displays as unformatted drive in Drive Manager.

I was referred to Data Clinic by my colleague at the firm I am working at in Glasgow. I am getting in touch to inquire about unlocking / recovering a WD Ultra Passport that I locked with a ATA password and cannot remember the password to. The drive is currently in locked state and I have not formatted it. I am willing to provide any information that would hail me as the owner of this drive if required.

When my external hard drive is plugged into a computer, the light goes blue as meant to.
However the drive doesn’t get listed on the file explorer, but it is recognised by the device manger.
It makes a very weird repeated buzzing noise when first plugged in that stops exactly after 10 seconds. The drive doesn’t show up and I need my files recovered.

I have sent in a 500GB SATA internal hard drive to Data Clinic in Glasgow branch that I have requested data recovery, along with a 1GB SSD drive to be used for the data transfer. I would like confirmation that Data Clinic have my drives and that they are in Data Clinic’c Manchester data recovery centre.

My Seagate Backup Plus external drive has failed. It makes a ticking noise when first plugged in and it is not discoverable so I can’t access any of my data.
