Buffalo NAS data recovery – Kensington and Chelsea
My Buffalo NAS LinkStation Duo 2TB (LS-WX2.0TL/R1) has a damaged RAID 0 array and has become inaccessable and corrupted. A local IT technician (I am located in Kensington and Chelsea in London), but will have someone personally courier the NAS to London in January) has examined it and says one of the hard drives has become damaged/inoperable, with the RAID 0 now being corrupted. What is the likely cost of recovering the data from the corrupted drive and RAID 0 array? It didn’t receive the best of reviews (http://www.expertreviews.co.uk/storage/nas-drives/50554/buffalo-linkstation-pro-duo-2tb-review) but I still need to get the files off of the device.

WD Support for file recovery for Chesterfield and Sheffield
My external hard drive died yesterday. My laptop no longer recognises it when I plug it in, i.e. nothing happens. The light on the device does come on though. The device is a WD My Passport (P/N: wdbbep0010bbk-01). I only need a couple of files recovering so if it’s not too expensive it’ll save me having to recreate them. I’m not concerned about repairing the device I barely use it. I’d be grateful if you could let me know how much it would cost to recover the files. I only live down the road (in Chesterfield, so I’m not that far from the hard drive recovery centre in Sheffield), so if you would like me to pop in with the device that’s not a problem.

My WD Passport ultra was dropped at a work event. Just over a week later I plugged it into my mac to ensure the data was still there, it was, but only when trying to eject did I find problems. I originally had a partition on my drive with one part holding multiple folders with files and the other part holding an entire backup of my mac. Upon trying to eject the partition holding the multiple folders, a message on my mac indicated that it couldn’t be disconnected. I tried to use task manager to quit and eject but it didn’t work that way, so I shut down my mac and removed the drive when everything had stopped running. Now when I connect my drive back to my mac the partition with the multiple folders doesn’t show up but the part with the back up does, it appears that I have lost half of my data with the partition. Is it possible to rectify this problem by any chance? I live in London.

Seagate drive has scratch
I have opened the seagate 2tb expansion external hard drive and I have seen a scratch on the disk in a circle, as it seems the pointer has been lowered down and is scratching the disk when turned on. Computer makes the noise when it has detected something externally has been plugged in, but will not pop up with the data.
It has video content/footage on there. Once a hard drive has a scratch on the surface it usually can not be recovered. Don’t waste your money on a data recovery service.

Backup hard drive error
Backup hard drive not working, I used my passport in morning and again when I tried to use in evening I can’t access any data …
When I unlock my Western Digital (WD) Passport with password I can’t see it getting detected. I want the data back. The hard drive I have was voted one of the best, but it wasn’t very good for me.

Data recovery from scratched platters

Saturday, December 30th, 2017

Last week I was contacted by the owner of a Hitachi 80GB hard drive. Unfortunately the hard drive platters have become scratched and they wanted to know if the files were recoverable from the hard drive:

Model IC35L090AVV207-0
Doesn’t function when connected to new computer. Like a quote to have the HD functioning again.

I gave it to a data recovery company located in Northampton and unfortunately they have said that they could not recover the data due to the media damage on the disk platters and that they weren’t able to image from the disk platters. They said they had been scratched.

Here’s another hard drive that has been sent to a data recovery company:

1tb Seagate Model: ST1000DM003
inspection carried out by KrollOntrack
Phisical damange Pass
Liquid contamination Pass
Power up test Pass
Electronica inspection Fail
Media integrity Fail

My hard drive suddenly stop getting recognised on my window 10. The flash is flashing but when I plug it into the computer it will not appear on the screen .It’s not recognizing. could you please tell me how to recover the pictures and video from the disk or what could cause this problem.

Scratched hard drive platter

When I plug my hard drive into my computer it shows up on my desktop, but when I click on it I cannot access the files within it. Have tried from more than one computer and have got the same problem. Someone suggest that the platters of the hard drive were scratched and that recovering the data would not be possible.

My HDD won’t read or appear on a PC. Power is working to it but it seems like an interface issue. I live in Chiswick – is it possible to come in to the Chiswick branch and discuss options?

We have two drives that require recovery. One is a 80Gb Hitachi, its just not detected, no power not sound when plugged in. The second is a Seagate drive thats been dropped and is making a clicking noise. It is making a beeping rhythmic sound and does not get registered when plugged in.

Clicking sound when turned on. LED light does flash but does not show folders on any computer. Scratched hard drive is recognised by the computer however, just fails to show folders.

Recovering files from a Mac

Using Disk Utility is a good way of recovering your files from a dodgy Mac hard drive. As basic types of data recovery go, Disk Utility is OK, but anything more complex and you’ll need a data recovery company. These posts are courtesy of such a company, thank you Recover Deleted Data.

Old WD Mybook not working
I have an old 500GB WD Mybook, one that still has to connect to an external power supply and is connected to USB via Firewire. The hard drive is never moved and has been working as expected in the last few years. Recently, after not being used for about a year, it powers on but the connection via laptop(s) does not pick up the external drive. I purchased another Firewire cable but no luck here. There is no sound coming out from the drive which is unexpected. I believe it is a simple case of the connection between the SATA drive being loose/broken and I just need this drive connected to another external USB drive, and the data transferred. There will be no need to fix the WD 500GB drive and happy for you to keep and re-sell it if you like. The hard drive will not turn on any more. The model is a Western Digital MyBook (Essential Edition 1TB USB 2.0) External Hard Drive.

Old Iomega drive makes clicking sound
I’ve had Iomega 500gb external hard drive for about 4 years and just recently when I connected it back on all I hear is some clicking sound. I have tried doing the basic by opening and resetting the reader back in its position however to me it sounds more like the drive to me. I need to recover the deleted photos and the videos of my kids which is more precious to me and my partner.

The hard drive beeps when first powered on. The driver will not be recognised by the computer. The make of the external drive is WD and the files are deleted.

Received file disk error upon restart after downloading OS X High Sierra on MacBook Pro 2012 model. Apple store suggested a damaged disk and advised a reformat.

Note: With all the above examples, you may first like to attempt running Disk Utility before contacting a data recovery service to recover your data.

Need Data File Recovered

Tuesday, November 28th, 2017

I have a WD Passport for Mac, which i use to store my photos and music on. The Mac broke and i had to run disk utility in order to recover the data. I took the mac to Apple and they installed a new OS, and new Photos programme.
The files on the drive are now just showing greyed out, and the disk says there’s only 53kb of data in the photos folder. When i try to import them to the new photos, it says the file isn’t recognised.

Data Clinic data recovery staff

Similarly, my Hitatchi 4TB external windows HDD from 2012. Just stopped working one day, now makes a series of small clicks after being powered up. Displays as unformatted drive in Drive Manager.

I was referred to Data Clinic by my colleague at the firm I am working at in Glasgow. I am getting in touch to inquire about unlocking / recovering a WD Ultra Passport that I locked with a ATA password and cannot remember the password to. The drive is currently in locked state and I have not formatted it. I am willing to provide any information that would hail me as the owner of this drive if required.

When my external hard drive is plugged into a computer, the light goes blue as meant to.
However the drive doesn’t get listed on the file explorer, but it is recognised by the device manger.
It makes a very weird repeated buzzing noise when first plugged in that stops exactly after 10 seconds. The drive doesn’t show up and I need my files recovered.

I have sent in a 500GB SATA internal hard drive to Data Clinic in Glasgow branch that I have requested data recovery, along with a 1GB SSD drive to be used for the data transfer. I would like confirmation that Data Clinic have my drives and that they are in Data Clinic’c Manchester data recovery centre.

My Seagate Backup Plus external drive has failed. It makes a ticking noise when first plugged in and it is not discoverable so I can’t access any of my data.

Beeping and clicking hard drives

Hard drive beeps
I’ve turned my PC on this morning along with my 2TB Seagate Barracuda external hard drive to find that it was powering on for about 5 seconds, made a short beeping noise and then powered down. I’ve tried in different USB ports but still the same problem. I opened Disk Management and it saw the disk but it was showing a Partition of about 3GB, that was it. It then came up with a Cyclic Redundancy Check error. At the moment I am absolutely devastated as this housed about 8 years worth of photo’s/music and other extremely important files. Schoolboy error on my part not having a backup.

Seagate 2 TB external hard drive is not being detected and gives a beep sound when plugged on.

I have a Seagate external hardrive (Plus Ultra Slim 2 TB USB 3.0 Portable 2.5 inch). It’s suddenly stopped connecting to my mac and makes a beeping sound when plugged in. There is no super essential data on there but If it could be repaired and I could retrieve the data that would be great. What’s the cost of repairing this? Is it possible to come into your dataclinic in Hackney

beeping hard drive picture

Barracuda clicks
My Seagate Barracude 2000 Gb HDD (model: ST2000DM001) started to make clicking sounds. Initially it was booting correctly but before I copied all the files, it stopped working. I couldn’t boot my computer with this disk connected so I had to unplug it (I have dual boot PC).

The hard drive was in use when it was hit. It’s a seagate 1TB hard drive. A ticking noise started after it was hit and so I turned off the MacBook. It can no longer be seen by the MacBook.

Seagate ST1000LM014 1EJ164-038 FW:DEMA WU (100535602 M) 1000gb 2.5″ Sata PCB sshd. drive cand start and can hear short sound all the time. looks like motor is unable to start. adout 500gb data to recover

I have a 80 gb desktop hdd which has just stoped working and will not boot or show in bios it started ticking a few weeks b4 but then it did not tick for a week then did not turn on after that

I have a small Seagate NAS (1 terabyte) that was bumped over and fell onto the desk when I was changing computers. It basically got it’s reader arm locked up. So the data needs to be recovered. It really probably doesn’t contain all that much data, but some of my work stuff, and personal family photos I don’t want to lose, as well as old financial data.

About data from phones and hard drives

Sunday, October 1st, 2017

Looking to recover Google Chrome browser history on a Google Pixel phone.

My hard drive is not being detected by the computer. It still spins and has its LED light on. I’m a science teacher and i have practically all my lessons and resources on my hard drive. I really need to get all my data back.

I have a Blackberry Priv that someone sat on and now i can’t access any of the data, although there’s no external damage. The most important thing would be that no data is wiped in the attempt to recover it, if possible.

loss of data

I have a Lexar 32 GB USB stick that is a few years old and I can not open it on my computer. When you plug the USB into the computer it starts to light up and the computer makes a noise but then nothing happens. I have checked the device managment and it is not showing the USB at all.I have tried several computers and the same happens on each.
The USB contains my only back up of pictures of my children from the last few years so as you can understand it is important for me to recover the data. Can you please send me a quote for recovering the data.

Need data recovery (pictures and videos) for samsung s2 stuck in boot loop.

I have had an old Toshiba HDD, 500GB that has failed to be recognised on the desktop computer and has been dormant for a number of years. I have had a free consultation with another hard drive repair company and they have said that I require Toshiba ‘parts’ in order to successfully repair the HD (or a quoted 70% chance that it can be fixed)

Hard drive clicks when connected to a computer. it also causes the computer to freeze and i am unable to access any files on it.

My WD 320gb external hard drive is approx 270gb full. One day it wouldn’t power up and just a green flashing on front, no spinning or ticking noise, I was hoping the drive would work in hdd docking station on the PC. So I opened the casing to obtain the hdd. Tried to boot it up in the docking station again but still NO power. I noticed a slight minor burn smell on a component on the PCB board. I ordered another PCB board from another WD320 hdd on eBay matching with the exact same model numbers. Swapped the PCB board, The disk spins and then stops as it isn’t recognised or readable by computer. I swapped he PCB board back, and started looking for a data recovery firm. Just contacting a few companies for an idea on price to decide whether it’s worth my while getting it recovered, or not, as I have a lot of this data already backed up already on the laptop, but not quite all of it. Your advice and quote would be very much appreciated.

My external hdd cannot ben read from my laptop and i can hear some minor clicking sound when I connected my HDD to my laptop, the sound lasted for few seconds and nothing happened. And can I know roughly the price range to recover the data? The model is WD My passport Ultra.

I have a Samsung galaxy S6 Edge 128GB, the motherboard is faulty. The phone won’t turn on or charge. I have tried another motherboard in the phone and that works, so it’s defiantly a fault with the motherboard. The phone wasn’t dropped and is not water damaged. Do you think the data on the motherboard is recoverable? I have photos I would like to get back.

Dropped external hard drives

Thursday, September 21st, 2017

A few weeks ago I dropped my external hard-drive (Western Digital 1TB) and it has been making a beeping sound but cannot be accessed. I used the information available on http://data-recovery-tips.co.uk/ to help me get the drive working again and then I sent in to Fields who had initially told me that it was recoverable after the test. After much trying to get in contact with them after this and what I feel was below par customer service, they asked for the encryption password (they couldn’t log in) and only then they told me that it was unrecoverable.

recover data from dropped samsung drive

Recovering the data from hard drives like this Samsung that has been dropped is best left to a data recovery company!

I dropped my external hard drive and now when I plug it into my laptop it clicks and won’t load the data. Would you be able to try and recover the data for me?

The computer can not get access to the external, it takes more than 10 minutes trying to get in and when the time pass shows on the screen “unreadable” or “empty” or “not recognise”. On this time is always doing the same sound like trying to read the disc but stuck on the same point.

The hard drive is no longer being detected by my Mac. It’s made by Samsung and dropped it. I have changed the wires, the power, and checked it against other hard drives which connect fine to my Mac so it must be something wrong with the drive. The power still comes on and you can hear it boot up. I am a videographer and have a couple of recent shoots on there which are yet to be backed up so I really could do with getting this looked at asap!

Seagate Backup Plus Slim 1TB, suspect it’s suffering from click of death, as it’s putting out a constant pattern ticking sound. I already opened the drive to check if it was a stuck head, but the head was parked. I immediately closed back the drive. The drive is recognised in Windows, it shows as a connected device and the name of the drive is showing but the volume is not being mounted, so it doesn’t show in Explorer. It probably has something to do with me dropping the hard drive a few days ago.

My 1TB WD My passport USB 3 hard drive is not being recognised anymore. The back light turns on when I connect the HD to the laptop and I heard the usual noise it normally does but that’s it.

Hard Drive Recoveries

Thursday, September 7th, 2017

We are always getting fresh enquiries for data recovery – to give people an idea of the type of faults we see read on!

CCTV DVR Recovery Needed
We have a DVR in from a client. Model is Sannce SN-DB3708GDSL31. The hard drive is not being recognised by the DVR and they need some footage retrieved. The drive itself appears intact with no SMART errors however the filesystem is unrecognised so we can’t access it.
Is it possible to give a rough estimate for data retrieval?

LaCie Rugged Data Retrieval
My LaCie Rugged Mini 2TB USB 3.0 has stopped working. It’s beeping and won’t show up either on the desktop or under disk utilities.
Got a lot of data that needs recovering!!
How much is it to recover this and make it functional again?
And when do you have time?

Two More
I have two hard drive that are not working. The first is a 5tb Seagate which was an external drive – I plugged the wrong power pack into it and it is goosed. I’ve tried to get it working via an external hub but no luck. No clicking or any sound coming from the drive when put in the external hub.
The second drive fell and now clicks when I try to get it working via the external hub. This was a 1tb drive. It clicks repeatedly but doesn’t appear to boot up.
Can you give me a rough estimate as to how much we would be talking about to try to recover data from each drive? I realise that this would only be a very rough estimate given the need to actually get a proper look at the drives.

We have a 2TB hard drive here with DVR video footage saved on it, which has corrupted and the computer will no longer recognise it. We have tried our IT department but they were unable to recover it. They said the data is totally corrupt / unreadable. Would you be able to send a quote for recovery? How does your pricing work – would we still be charged a cost if you weren’t able to recover the drive?

We’d recommend someone like Data Clinic (UK) or Ace (Russia) for quality data recover services. But as always, do your own research!

Data Recovery Assistance

Wednesday, July 19th, 2017

I have an external hard drive which was opened by two companies with recovery data profile, one is Recoveo from France and the other one is AABBOO from Germany, both of them told me that my external hard drive have microscopical scratches and they are not able
to recovery any of my data, my pictures and my videos are really important for me because I have all my life on this drive, did you had such any cases till now ? do you think my data can be recover ?

computer help and assistance required

I have a WD My passport 1Tb that has become unreadable. I need the files recovered. The hard drive was accidentally dropped and now cannot see the content. is does see as connected to the pc but that’s it. I had professional to look at it and was connected with Linux software but nothing, and I have been advised that it need to be open in laboratory to recover the data.
the WD hard drive is 1T big but is not even half full and has only pictures on it. is it something that you can do and if yes how much would it cost?
Please contact me via email as I don’t have good network reception.

I have a WD passport hard drive with photos, music, and some documents on it which i can no longer access. I took drive on holiday with me; it was working before I went but not since I’ve come back (not used on holiday, just carried in bag). When I plug drive in light comes on and I can hear it whirring, but it’s not visible under My Computer. I can see it as External HDD under control panel, but I can’t do anything with it there. When I go into disk management through command prompt it says the drive is not initialised. Would be grateful if you could give me a quote for your recovery services.

Editors Note: For recommendations about which data recovery companies to use we suggest to read this blog thoroughly! – starting with the last post here http://24hourcomputerrepairs.com/help-recovering-hard-drive-data/

External Driver (Hard Drive) Recovery

Wednesday, May 10th, 2017

In this post I decided to send some hard drives to Recover Deleted Data to test their data recovery capabilities. I was surprised what I discovered: they were actually very good. It’s not often that an ‘under the radar’ hard drive recovery company like this are any good. With a bit of digging I found out that they were trained by Data Clinic Ltd, who are recognised experts in data recovery.

My external driver (I think he means ‘hard disk drive’) has some problems and I can not get access to my data.
The lens (I think he means ‘read write heads’) are damaged and are touching the disk not allowing it to spin.
I would like to recover all the data on this external driver.
How much this will cost?
Where do you usually save this data? Do you need a new external driver?

Adjusted my WD MyPassport 1TB from one position to the other (didn’t even drop it) and it stopped working. Making the clicking noise. I need the whole 1TB worth of data recovered (I can send a working hard drive to put it on if need be?) and I am looking for preferably less than £100.

Comment: There is no chance of recovering the data from a mechanically damaged hard drive like yours for anything less than £395 ex VAT

Windows Safe Mode Problems
Installed Windows Media Pack 3 which caused the computer to not boot. Couldn’t get it to start even in safe mode. Did a system recovery which unfortunately restored the computer to factory settings so I lost all my data

safe mode screen

My external hard drive is not working. My computer recognises that it is connected to the hard drive and the light goes on and a whirring sounds is heard but nothing appears on the screen. I have two external drive like this.

I have a 1TB Samsung M3 portable hard drive with photos, films and music on it. The PC and a Sony Blu Ray player are not recognising the hard drive when it is connected. When connected to the PC or Blu Ray Player, the blue light comes on the hard drive, then flashes three times, then goes off. The disk then stops spinning. Sometimes the blue light stays on and the disk spins but the computer or blu ray player do not recognise it
I’ve tried a different cable and on 2 different PC’s but still the same problem. I’m not sure if it’s been dropped, been in close proximity to magnets (my son may have played with magnets near it? unlikely though) or whether there is a problem with the driver. I’ve had it about two years. Just before the problem started, I plugged it in at work and my work computer did a ‘scan and fix’ but then said it didn’t need fixing and it opened okay. I work in Putney/Wandsworth so quite near the Data Clinic Chiswick office if that helps.

Recover Deleted Data were able to assist with sorting out the hard drive problems on all the above cases.
