Data Recovery Questions

Wednesday, May 29th, 2019

Below are several questions sent to a data recovery clinic in Northampton. Beeping and making sticking noise as described in your Web page.

Please can you quote to either repair or recover Data from my HDD External Hard Drive
Description of Problem not working it has beed dropped

The laptop and the applicable hard drive are old and have been unused since 2012. Back then, the hard drive became unaccessible, which caused me to replace the laptop (Macbook).
The issue why the hard drive became unaccessible was never discovered. So my question is if you can restore the files on this hard drive.

Northampton

I formatted by mistake from the camera, since then I have not more used the SD card. It is a 32 GB lexar SD card. It contains about 35-50 minutes of video interview plus some photos.

The harddrive in question is about two years old from a reputable company in Northamptonshire. My external harddrive wire was replaced as it was no longer connecting to the computer. From this moment on the harddrive would occasionally have errors appearing saying ‘unable to read disk’. Now the harddrive appears as corrupt and my IT team at work have tried to recover the data but have told me that it needs to be looked at by professionals. This has files on it that I would like to recover. Please can you contact me with details about how I might have this looked at?

1TB solid state drive from a Dell laptop. Will not boot but Dell diagnostics finds no hardware fault. Drive is not readable. Need too try to recover as much data as possible.

The hard drive broke for my Macbook Pro, took it into a data recovery store in Northampton who told me that the data was was recoverable as the ?pin had broken.

The connector between my usb cable and hard drive has broken off meaning that I can not connect the hard drive to my computer. I have files that I use for work as I am a teacher who moves classrooms so all my data I need is in this external hard drive. I need for it to be fixed so I can use it in work.

I have 2TB WD external hard drive which doesn’t work. It basically doesn’t connect to my laptop, it doesn’t get recognized.
Can I please get an estimate as to what is going to cost me to recover the data and how much time you need to do it

Apple Mac Data Recovery in Liverpool, London and Manchester

Wednesday, March 27th, 2019

In this article we look at various facets of Apple Mac data recovery – particularly from hard drives. We recommend that if you are wanting to use a data recovery service to retrieve your Apple Mac files then you find a suitable data clinic recovery centre. These are available in Liverpool, London or Manchester.

Since an update to my Macbook OSX (to high sierra) the external drive is not being recognised by the Macbook. It used to be recognised by other macs running a previous operating system but now it is not being read by any mac. It is partitioned to exFat and Mac OS Journal. I have ran terminal commands and checked my system report but it doesn’t show in either nor in recovery mode or safe mode. I am based in Liverpool but the laptop is located in London. Do you have a Mac data recovery clinic in either Liverpool or London?

A local data recovery technician at home had looked at my Mac hard drive. He has taken it apart. This is what he said:
“Unfortunately the coatings that the information is stored on is scraped off in several areas from the disk and the heads that read info are also damaged so its therefore impossible to retrieve anything unfortunately.”
Is there anything you can do to rescue the files from the Mac hard drive? I am a school principal at a Manchester clinic and years of data and work is stored in this drive.

I have a Seagate 1tb external drive. it was working and then suddenly stopped showing on My Computer. It would click two or three time then stop. It took the Mac hard drive to several PC shops – in London, Liverpool and Manchester. All 3 recommended the data clinic recovery company on Lombard Street London. i took the drive to them and they returned it saying there is platter damage and that it is unrecoverable. what i need is a second opinion and im still hopeful some of my data is available. i have pictures and a report from them. all he has returned is the inner drive casing so there is no power plug or usb port.
my question is does this sound like something unfixable or is it something you could look at.

My little one poured some water on my Apple Macbook Air laptop. I did a short and long DST test and they both failed (I have the error code as well). Tried to connect the hard disk to the computer but was not able to open it using Apple Mac data clinic recovery software. I would like to save any data that can be saved from the hard drive.

Birmingham / Worcester Hard Drive Recoveries

Monday, January 7th, 2019

There’s a fairly good amount of hard drive recovery work available in the West Midlands. Covering the areas of Birmingham, Worcestershire and Tamworth, the call for data and file recovery services can be quite high.
The Arena is located right in the centre of Birmingham close to Broad Street and many businesses and I recently had an enquiry that went like this:

Broad Street BirminghamI have a WD passport and it will not connect to the laptop and will not recognise the hard drive as a USB. It just keeps whirring and beeping. I have looked online and tried to resolve myself but cant.
I think it is completely bust and I need to recover the data on the hard drive please. If you could send me a quote it would be much appreciated.
I live in Worcester so not far away from your Birmingham office.

I have a WD 2TB hdd whose controller is not working to the best of my knowledge.
The drive and the engine spins up perfectly although there is no recognition on the computer that it is connected.
Do you swap controllers ? please note that, it is also needed to replace the rom bios chip on the controller.
I’ll provide further information if requested – I’ve live near Tamworth, West Midlands but work on Broad Street in Birmingham.

My External WD 1T HDD is not working due to mechanical issue. It gives beep sound once connected and last for 30 second before the power down. It’s a personal HDD and I will like to know the price of recovery. Also, is it possible to drop it to one of your office as I don’t trust post.

Drive has started making knocking noise. iOmega drive with Seagate internal disk. Doesn’t appear in Windows explorer anymore, appears in Disk Manager as uninitialized. Full 1TB drive looking for recovery possibilities

WD My Book Data Recovery

Tuesday, October 16th, 2018

WD My BookI have a Western Digital MY-Book with a 3TB harddrive and recently had a data recovery service on it by Data Clinic in London, who I can recommend.

Windows could not detect it. Circuit board on the harddrive superhot.
2 faulty components detected on the card, and changed.
Now detectable in windows if harddrive is attaced directly to USB-port, but data not readable.(En-crypted?)
Not detectable if attaced through My Book encryption card.
So that card seems to be faulty to.
4060-705149-000 Rev P1 is that
circuit number (Have pictures)
Hard to find with that Rev.
If the card is avaliable, by you, then hopefully I can save some data from the disk?
I have a western digital hard disc, which fallen down and started making a clicking sound. I tried to fix it by myself but unfortunately, I make it worse, I think I scratch the platter. I hope you still can recover the data

My external My Book hard disk isn’t being read. It was dropped on the floor, and the best guess from the IT services of my university is that the disk spinning mechanism is broken. The light does come on when connected to the computers but the data isn’t accessible. Could you please let me know how much it would cost and how long it would take to recover the data from the disk?

I accidently dropped my WD drive and now makes bleeping noise, will not load but light shows so power to drive is working, I believe the reading heads have gone faulty.

I have a My Book WD external drive where I stored for years all my data on. Suddenly my Computers (apple) do not recognise the device. Checked the computers throughout. It is the USB-device. I think I need data recovery, I work as journalist and have ALL my data on this drive. pretty desperate.

Asus X550CA – XX768H, model no. ATHEROS/AR5B125. Laptop spent a while re-starting itself, and now doesn’t appear to be able to start (boot up) at all. I’m near Holborn in London and can get to the Data Clinic London office by getting of the Tube at the Bank station. I need spare part for wd my passport 500gbWDBKXH5000ABL-EESN

Hard Drive and Moto G Phone Recovery

Thursday, May 31st, 2018

Toshiba Satellite Pro C850–1HD
Can’t F2 or F8 laptop on startup. Get windows login, then circle of dots, then blank screen. Windows 7 operating system total failure. Hence need to recover hard disc data. It appears that the input on my Seagate hard drive has melted, and the machine is unable to read the disk. Any chance of recovery?

moto g phoneAlso my WD My Passport has stopped working and it makes approximately three beeping noises and then it doesn’t show up for me to gain access to any of the folders and files. It shows a message’ device descriptor failed request’ and I would like to get it fixed It’s a 1tb external hard drive is not recognised by computer. Suspected hardware failure – clicking noise. Believe drive was dropped. Please can you provide estimate for recovery please – photos and videos.

I have a transcend 2TB external drive which has a broken arm and needs the plattens removed and installed in a replacement to extract the data. We have managed to get 8GB from it but it has in excess of 750GB.

Moto G Phone Recovery
My mum’s Moto G phone has water damage, it still shows some signs of life but is essentially unusable and won’t maintain connection if plugged into a pc.
We want to try and recover all her photos and numbers stored on the phone.

In a previous post I provided a very useful link for data recovery services on Moto G mobile phones – you can find it here: http://24hourcomputerrepairs.com/datarecovery-kazam-curve-motog/.

Important research data needed in Newcastle

Friday, May 4th, 2018

As a post graduate at Newcastle University my Seagate Hard drive fell on the floor.
When powered the drive clicks and spins down.
My organisation Computer Service in Newcastle has opened the drive within clean lab for internal examination.
Diagnosis is that failing read/write heads prevents access to data
There is possible damage on media surface area causing mechanical and logical read/write operation to fail.
Partition tables unreadable due to read/write failure.
My organisation CSD could not access to data due to damaged read/write head and has not capacity to repair.
The hard drive is not full (approx. half of total capacity is occupied).
It contains very important research data (not backed up).

newcastle

I dropped my Seagate hard drive and it can no longer be recognised when plugged into my laptop or desktop computer. The blue light is still flashing but the hard drive is now making a continuous ‘beeping’ noise. I believe that the needle is jammed and does not allow the disk to spin anymore.

82 gb IBM 3.5 PATA internal drive that is not recognised when i use a caddy pata / sata adaptor on my pnew pc. It feels like its spinnging up but it is not recognised in storage management or seen in my computer. I would like a quote to know how much to recover the 3 folders of data on this drive. I live in Jesmond, just outside Newcastle.

My 2011 MacBook Pro 17” hard drive failed. Also the motherboard died. The local Apple store said the motherboard can’t be fixed. But also they can not recover the data on the hard drive. I’m not an expert here, but apparently the needle has flipped up to prevent damage to actual hard drive disk.
So I have the hard drive removed but he can not recover the data, and recommend to contact a data recovery service.

I have two external hard drives. One is broken and makes a rattling sound. (brand:integral). The other comes on with a light but does not connect to my laptop. (brand:Toshiba). I was just wondering whether you are able to retrieve the photos and documents etc from them and if so how much that would cost.

My laptop was smashed and my harddisk got bent and as a result I can’t access my files, please may I know if it can be fix there in the UK, I can send the drive via DHL or come down my self to the UK thanks. I work for Newcastle Sciences.

Lost text messages on HTC and Galaxy

Sunday, April 8th, 2018

What are the most valuable items of data on a mobile phone? For the owners of HTC M8 and Samsung Galaxy S7 phones, the answer seems to be lost text messages. Here are two examples:

recovering deleted and lost text messagesAbout 3 weeks ago I lost some text messages from my mobile phone (HTC M8). I don’t recall deleting it, perhaps I did without knowing. I never backup my data. I’m only interested in lost data of one contact that’s all.
Please let me know if you able to help?
I live close to Data Clinic’s Lombard St centre in London I’m happy to take there if someone wants to have a look at my device. I also have the data stored on a broken hard drive so I’ll bring that in too and hopefully you can get the data off of it.

I have got an old, broken galaxy s7 edge that has some photos and text messages on it that I would really like to retrieve, problem is that the phone is bricked, the screen is broken, the battery is dead (as in not chargeable dead), the charging/data port is broken, the list goes on. I’m just hoping to get my old photos back, and would like a quote if thats okay. Just a heads up, I probably won’t be able to answer a call back in business hours just due to my job (having seen the button that says request call back) so if you could pop me an email to the address provided instead, that would be brilliant.

When attempting to retrieve text messages from phone’s the still turn on the best way forward is to try a software extraction process. This can be done by downloading some software from the internet that will do the job for you. However, if your phone no longer turns on then you’ll need to get the assistance of a phone data recovery company to help you. These companies are able to read the text message data from the memory chips on your phone, even if it no longer switches on.

Often in legal cases it’s necessary to extract messages and data from phone where those messages have been lost or deleted, a data recovery company who are also experts in extracting text messages (whether deleted or not) are Data Clinic – you can read their phone data recovery services page here 1 and their phone data extraction (investigative forensics services) page here 2.

Seagate Hard Drive Recovery – London and Worcester

Wednesday, March 7th, 2018

In this post I examine some recent data recovery enquiries for Seagate hard drives.

SMART value errors
I have a seagate hard drive (1 TB back up plus). It has a lot of precious data on it and I haven’t been able to get it to work for some time now.
When I click on the icon, an error message occurs that tells me it needs to be formatted- I have not done this.
I have extremely limited knowledge of anything like this but I downloaded a SMART tester that identified ‘197 current pending secret count RAW value 16‘ and a whole host of other errors such as ‘uncorrectavle error in data’. Unfortunately I don’t know what any of this means or how to recover anything safely, I’m just really hoping it can be saved!!
There shouldn’t be any physical damage to the drive but I don’t think I’ve been careful enough when unplugging it. I’d be really grateful if I could have it looked at for data recovery. Would this be onto a new drive (if it’s possible?). I live in Malvern, Worcestershire and happy to drop it in to the office.

Malvern, Worcestershire

I have a Seagate 350gb external harddrive that I use occasionally to backup files and photos and today it was not recognised by my computer. It bleeped when the USB was connected to the drive but it couldn’t connect and now the light is on on the harddrive but it isn’t being recognised by 2 different computers and I have checked the cables etc. Putting my ear to it I can hear it is whirring with a slight throb to it. It has photos of Worcester (especially Great Malvern) on it that I don’t have elsewhere and would like to recover them.

Seagate Barracuda 3.5″ internal SATA HDD. Used in an external enclosure for backing up of videos and photos. Enclosure slipped off surface and dropped onto the floor while powered on. Since then, when powering on HDD there is a slight buzzing noise for 2 seconds followed by a sharp beep. This repeats for 20 seconds then HDD goes dead; no spinning, no noise, no power. Attempted to power on through enclosure, SATA dock to PC and slaving to an existing PC. All with same results. Spoke with Phil Buttifant on phone and keen to drop off HDD for free diagnostics (Lombard St, London). Require reference number.

My 1 TB seagate expansion doesn’t work when connect it to my laptop and this doesn’t allow me to access my documents on the hard drive. I live in Worcestershire but travel frequently to London

Recover data from Western Digital hard drives

Friday, February 23rd, 2018

WD logoIn the previous post to this, I wrote a lot about how hard drives become mechanically damaged and what to do to recover the data from them when they break. In this post I give some further examples of data recovery from Western Digital hard drives.

I have a WD external hard drive that when plugged in it makes a noise “tick” every second as if something was hitting something else. It is not recognised by the pc…

I have a 2 week old WD Mycloud Home Nas Drive which has stopped working. I took it back to curry’s who said that the clicking sound when trying to boot means the drive cannot read the data. The PC does not recognise the drive either.

I used a WD external hard drive to set up a windows 10 boot drive. Windows partitioned the drive and I can now only see it as a 4GB flash drive. In device manager I can see the rest of the drive is not formatted. The data is still there, I just cant get to it without formatting which will erase it. The drive holds about 1TB of data. Can you format or recover the data?

I have two WD elements external hard drives (1 x 1tb 1 x 2tb). one was working fine until i dropped it the other day it reads but it is very slow and the other one says F: Drive Is Not Accessible. The Parameter Is Incorrect or something similar both contain music, videos and pictures which is important that i get back.

After my wife has dropped my harddrive during a decoration weekend it has stopped responding.
the device still registers connected and shows all folders saved but I can not access these folders
also makes like a skidding noise periodically.
The device name is WD Elements
i need to try and recover the files on here as i have alot of buisness data
and family photos

WB Mybook 2Tb HD broken; I’ve taken it out of its casing and can’t recover any data from it. It contains laptop backups and other data I’d like to recover. How much would it cost to get it recovered onto a USB HD?

WD passport ultra. I sent it to a data recovery service, but have been told it has a mechanical fault that means the data cannot be recovered- the head stack?
They looked into mechanical repairs for me but there was chance it could not be fixed and it would cost a lot of money ([probably for nothing).
I would be grateful if you could offer your opinion/advice.

In my opinion, if you have a broken WD hard drive and you want to recover the data, I would only recommend you try and do this yourself if the data on the hard drive is of no value to you. The reason for this is you’ll probably make a mess of it. I’ve learnt that if you have files on a Western Digital hard drive that are of value to you then you should ask a good data recovery company to retrieve your data for you. Do not try and recover the data on your own.

Examples of mechanically damaged hard drives

Saturday, February 10th, 2018

There are many faults that can befall a hard drive. One of the most common is a mechanical failure. These are most often caused by that hard drive falling and landing on something firm like a floor. This impact damages the heads of the hard drive and if the files and folders on the hard drive are valuable then you’ll have to consult a data recovery company (like Data Recovery Tips), or a country wide hard drive recovery specialist like Data Clinic Ltd to get them off. Why? Because a mechanical fault damages components inside the hard drive that need to be replaced in order to access the data again.

A damaged hard drive

  • I have a Verbatim external hard drive which stopped working today whilst I was in the process of organising some of the folders on it. When I connect it to my laptop, it beeps for a few seconds (this then stops), but it does not register with the laptop. I have tried a new USB lead and have tried to connect it to a desktop but the issue remains the same. I have a great deal of personal photos of my child, and documents which I need for my job as a teacher.
  • Seagate Expansion Portable Drive SRD0NF1 fell off table and hung down without hitting the floor. Since this the hard drive will no longer connect. When inserting USB into Macbook it just produces a consistent beeping sound, with around 1 second in between each beep. At first the blue light was on constantly and not flashing, but then after a while this no longer appears at all and just has the beeping sound.
  • I have a Transcend 1TB Hard Drive (TS1TSJ25D2). When I try to connect the hard drive to my laptop, the blue light on the hard drive comes on but my PC doesn’t recognise the hard drive. The hard drive also make a strange sound, like the drive spinning inside. Please can you advise on possible reasons for this and recommended course of action to access the data on my hard drive.
  • My hard drive stopped working. When connected to the laptop there’s a sound like a bip coming from it but it is not recognised by the computer. Needed to recover some of the files on it.

To summarise, the 4 examples are all mechanically damaged hard drives that will need the attentions of a hard drive data recovery specialist to retrieve the files. Look through some other posts on this site to find some more recommendations.
